THE ENLIGHTENED THINKER
The roads
make many victims of hit and run or accidents where people succumbed.
This has become recurrent these days. People are enraged and fingers are
often pointed at drivers who are often under drug or alcohol influence
while driving. If indeed they were, unquestionably they are blameworthy
and must face retribution for their choice of actions.
However,
people tend to forget the real culprit here. And unless this real culprit
is targeted and remoulded, the situation will sadly happen, again and again.
In fact, the real culprit here is the mother of all evils, i.e the system which
issues licences to produce Khamr, to sell it openly in supermarkets and
elsewhere in many colours and forms, which also give the freedoms to men
to buy and consume it.
Let us ask
ourselves, when has khamr brought about any good? From domestic
violence, to crimes, road accidents, rapes, cruelty and many others,
khamr drag man down to the level of animals, or even lower. Yet, it is
tolerated, regulated and therefore accepted. We can also venture to say that
the consumption of khamr is actually embedded within the culture.
As it
calls to maximising pleasure and therefore escapism to the harsh reality
of life through intoxicants. Solving this issue, therefore, requires an alternative,
another system, with its own doctrine, generating another mindset,
another culture, laws and way of life. This is none other than Islam.
Our Deen calls towards self-restraint instead of running behind futile pleasures.
As for
intoxicants, it is inherently and outrightly haraam, whether to produce,
trade with and by default consuming it. What is more impressive is how
people under such a system do not seek for an escape from reality through
intoxicants, even if they may be in some harsh situations. Instead, in Islam,
difficulties are viewed as tests from Allah swt, and we know that Allah swt
tests those whom He swt loves, in order to forgive their sins, and or raise
their ranks in Jannah.
Therefore
people are called to persevere consistently, even in the face of adversities
while awaiting a swift relief and their promised reward in Jannah.
Hence, we now know for sure, that in our current state of affairs, it is
quasi-impossible to solve the problem of intoxicants, causing road accidents,
as the system itself, must guarantee man's freedom from submitting to
God. Therefore, a worldwide, radical and complete change is what we
should seek.
